Firefighters battled a total loss blaze at the Battle Creek Shopper News with damage estimated between 350000 and 400000 dollars. Publisher Fred Jacobs said the fire appeared electrical while Emmett, Pennfield and Newton township crews contained the fire as workers had left for the day. The alarm sounded about 550 PM during the September 8 press deadline.
