John Bellairs Marshall Author Famous For Clock in Walls
John Anthony Bellairs of Marshall authored The House with the Clock in Its Walls later turned into a film released September 24. Born January 17, 1938, he grew up in Marshall and studied at Notre Dame and the University of Chicago, then taught English before writing full time. He mentored and influenced by Dickens and Tolkien, wrote 15 more young adult novels, and died in 1991 in Haverhill, Massachusetts at age 53. An historical marker in front of the Cronin House honors his 1972 book. Bellairs would have been 80 today.
