With the bond deadline looming, the Marshall Public Schools Board of Education considers bond size and scope while deliberating the closure of Shearman School and relocating programs including the Marshall Alternative High School.
Johan Vanniekerk of Fort Wayne Indiana faced the third day of his preliminary hearing for the May 1 killings of his 72 year old mother and 3 year old daughter at a Marshall Comfort Inn. A toxicology report on the victims showed high levels of prescribed antidepressant in their blood. The hearing was paused since September due to the judge's illness.
As part of Marshall Energy Optimization Plan about 1500 compact fluorescent lights are being distributed to residents by local boy and girl scouts in the coming weeks. The 18 watt bulb equals a 75 watt incandescent and uses about 75 percent less electricity. City Electric Superintendent Frank Zimmer says the city is doing its part to be green. See story on page 22.
Marshall held a Veterans Day observance with retired veterans local citizens and Marshall students gathered to honor those who served. The sun shone on the event and readers can see pictures on page 50.
Michigan state Rep Jase Bolger spoke to the Marshall Business Association about the state budget and living within means. He urged government to avoid heavier burdens on residents. Marshall High players celebrate a 27 26 overtime district title win with Dave Giese posing with the trophy. Redhawks host Detroit Country Day at 7 p.m. in a regional rematch.
