The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education plans to adopt the 2009-10 budget on Monday featuring realignment of teaching staff and elimination of midday bus runs. A budget workshop was also held on May 28, with details on page 6.
The Marshall City Council approved the 2009-10 budget at a Monday meeting. The city manager's administrative assistant position was eliminated and the Public Services Building secretary reduced to part time, saving $36,872 annually. See story on page 11.
Marshall artist Hans Schuler is named a finalist for the Governor George Romney Lifetime Achievement Award. Gov Jennifer Granholm will honor Schuler and three other finalists on June 18. See page 9 for full details.
Tony Boswell 25 of Battle Creek was hired May 18 as the Marshall Country Club's new chef to replace Dan McCasey. He began duties last Monday and said he hopes to draw more patrons to enjoy the club's new offerings. See story on page 42.
FireKeepers Casino began installing its gaming floor with the first of about 2,600 slot machines for a 107,000 square foot area. General Manager R Bruce McKee called it a momentous day as opening is planned for early August. See story on page 26.
The Marshall High School boys golf team finished the second round of the Div. 2 state championships at Grand Valley State University after earning the state bid by winning the May 29 regional at Marshall Country Club, edging Harper Creek and Trenton by one shot.
