Marshall Police Department issued a July 13 alert about a new scam claiming a federal program will pay utility bills. Victims are asked for social security numbers and bank routing details. no funds exist. Hang up and contact the utility using the bill’s customer service number. For fraud tips visit the Michigan site.
On July 17 at about 7 p.m. Calhoun County deputies responded to a pickup crashing into Maynard Lake in Eckford Township. A 49-year-old Marshall Township man said he drove into the lake to cool his dogs and get a wash for his truck. He was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and jailed awaiting arraignment. The 1988 Chevy Silverado was recovered by tow.
The 2012 Homer Historical Society car show takes place Sunday at Blair Historical Farm one mile east of Homer. Registration runs 9 to noon with a 10 vehicle fee. spectators enter free. Calhoun County Sheriff reports three suspects arrested in two break in incidents at Nagel's Meat Processing, 3265 22 Mile Road. After a lengthy investigation a safe was recovered and three suspects identified, interviewed and taken into custody. An 18 year old Tekonsha man, an 18 year old Burlington man, and an 18 year old Union City woman are lodged at the Calhoun County Jail for breaking and entering. names withheld pending arraignment.
