Man arrested on I-94 for concealed weapon and drugs
On January 1 around 5 p.m. a Calhoun County deputy stopped a speeding motorist on I-94 near 24 Mile Road in Sheridan Township. The driver, a 30 year old Kalamazoo man, had an outstanding warrant. a search found marijuana and a handgun. He was jailed for multiple felonies. The suspect’s name is withheld pending arraignment. A 26 year old female passenger from Eastpointe was not charged.

Springfield man arrested for attempted murder after stabbing
On December 28 at 2 40 a.m. deputies responded to Barberry Drive Springfield for a stabbing. A 19 year old Springfield man suffered facial and chest wounds after an argument in a vehicle ended with a bottle strike and stabbing. He fled toward Avenue A and was later arrested in the 700 block of Avenue A. The suspect remains jailed and identity withheld pending arraignment.

Officers responded to a home invasion on Charlotte Street at 4:25 a.m. January 2. The homeowner woke to a man at the foot of the bed. he fled on foot. A K9 search was unsuccessful, no items reported stolen and no injuries. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department aided. At 8 p.m. Kris Brown found a witness and suspect, leading to the arrest of a 31-year-old male for home invasion. he is jailed at Calhoun County Jail.

Former Summit Pointe CEO Sentenced for Medicaid Fraud
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced the Jan. 13 sentencing of Ervin Brinker, former Summit Pointe Battle Creek CEO, for two counts of Medicaid fraud conspiracy and one count of embezzlement by a public officer.
