Emmett Township recalls three board members in Feb 22 vote

Calhoun County Fire Departments Win $600K Communications Grant

Local fire departments in Calhoun County will receive more than 600000 dollars in equipment including radios laptops and other devices to upgrade communications. Fire Chief Steve Riggs says many departments could not afford new radios before and the grant funds will serve 15 units of government.

Marshall plans new Cronin Building redevelopment project

Marshall City Council discussed future plans for the J H Cronin Building including a restaurant and apartments. It approved an option agreement lease development and an amendment for lease and purchase, with the developer seeking private funds. Tarkiewicz and Eyre commented on the financial stakes for Michigan.

Marshall approves new motor carrier enforcement ordinance

The Marshall City Council approved a new motor carrier enforcement ordinance Tuesday night. Police Chief Jim Schwartz says it formalizes existing law to protect infrastructure by enforcing overweight and non compliant vehicles. See story on page 10.

Ice storm leaves region in darkness across west Michigan

A winter thaw followed by ice storm on February 20 21 brought up to half an inch of ice and snow delaying school closures and triggering accidents. By Thursday morning about 32 000 Consumers Energy customers in west Michigan lacked power with 2 400 in Calhoun County still affected.
