Marshall to reintroduce winter ice rink at fairgrounds
The Marshall City Council approved purchasing a portable ice rink to be placed under the Calhoun County Fairgrounds covered arena, expanding activities for youth and residents. City Manager Tom Tarkiewicz calls it a quality of life feature responding to Parks and Rec Master Plan surveys. The rink is slated for the upcoming season.

License plate auction offers glimpse of history in Michigan
The late Mike Russell of Battle Creek, who died in April 2011, built a large Michigan license plate collection. On November 27, enthusiasts attended a Marshall Activity Center auction featuring over 1,000 cataloged lots and about 2,500 plates. A 1910 porcelain plate sold for 275 dollars, and a matched pair from 1910 brought 550 dollars.

Community invites knitters to wrap new downtown trees
Marshall residents of all ages are invited to knit or crochet tree sweaters for the Cleveland Select Pear trees planted downtown. Participants will cover the top two feet of each trunk with about eight by thirty inches of colorful wool or acrylic yarns, brightening the trees for February events.

Golf Simulators Open at Marshall Activity Center
The Marshall Activity Center has installed two golf simulators and opened bookings for tee times. Manager and co-owner Dan Stulberg noted the room is still being finished but courses are now available for play.
