The Man on the Run Inspires Coach Wissink Story
Steve Wissink, a New Jersey high school junior in the mid 1970s, shifted from basketball to cross country to impress a coach and wound up becoming a long time track and cross country coach at Marshall High School. He ran at Hope College and helped Albion College and Charlotte High School win titles before taking Marshall’s program to renewed success. Now coaching in southwestern Michigan, Wissink foresees a vibrant season as Marshall hosts its first track meet in three years, with about 120 athletes across boys and girls teams and four home meets on a resurfaced track.
