April marks esophageal and testicular cancer awareness per the American Cancer Society. Esophageal cancer signs include trouble swallowing weight loss chest pain and hoarseness. Testicular cancer is rare but has a 95 percent five year survival rate. Early diagnosis improves outcomes.
Bellevue Schools celebrated National Reading Month with a first ever Community Read at the elementary school. Volunteers from the community read ten minutes to rotating groups, offering six different books during the hour. Assistant principal Jheri Wilson appeared in a dinosaur costume and urged students to support reading volunteers, with the program slated to become annual.
