In Maynard several household cats, some over a decade old, vanished mysteriously from the Paper Mill corner area. Residents fear a cat-stealing racket and warn the culprit could face opposition from distraught owners outraged by the loss of their pets.
Maynard Chamber of Commerce reduced yearly dues from 3 to 1 at a Maynard meeting in Masonica hall presided over by William Stockwell. The group voted a 25 dollar donation to Emerson Hospital and formed committees to raise hospital contributions and study welfare planning and town projects for town meeting. Committee members include James Priest Joseph Dineen Rev Matthew Vance James Ledgard and others. They also formed a three member panel to seek lower utility rates and invited William H O’Brien to address the next meeting. Trustees recommended replacing the canal fence on Great Road with a strong wire fence.
John M Bellows JY a freshman at the University of Vermont was initiated into the Wig and Buskin honorary dramatic society. He graduated from Maynard High in 1930.
Nearly 800 members attended the Women's Union Men’s Night at the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord. A chicken pie supper was served by Mrs Herbert H. Cook's committee, followed by a vocal chorus and an address by Dr. Brewer Eddy of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions on missionary work. The evening ended with social hour as attendees lingered for closer interaction before departing.
Last Sunday Rev John Rex Shepler gave an illustrated lecture on The Kentucky Mountains at the Methodist church. Epworth League led by Howard Whitney attended the Hudson Circuit meeting in Clinton. Ladies Aid met at Mrs Isaac Binks home. Adelphi class will meet at Mrs Rachel Barlow 30 Parker Street. Rainbow Girls plan to attend Sunday service. Finish Lutheran choir of 30 voices under Omar Tuikka will give a concert. Annual Methodist conference at Winthrop April 5 to 10. Emmanuel Taylor and William Naylor named delegates to Lay conference April 5-6. Official church board meets Monday April 3.
Memorial Church in South Sudbury staged a bridal pageant attended by many townsfolk. Ten seats remained as Bessie Maynard and Lawrentie Winship opened with a recital, followed by Carl ton Ellins singing. Dressed brides traced fashion from 1852 to 1932 in a Lohengrin procession. Afterward attendees gathered in the vestry for wedding cake, sandwiches, tea, and chocolate.
Maynard Council Knights of Columbus outlines a bigger sports night for April with headline speakers from multiple sports and boxing exhibitions. Grand Knight James B. Farrell leads the entertainment committee as Colonial hall is considered for tickets.
Rev Mathew A Vance wrote and staged Maynard Judas Iscariot pageant at Stoneham with a large cast from Maynard including Rev and Mrs A Vance and many others. Singers accompanied by a quartet will perform. The drama travels to West Acton, Maynard, and South Acton on upcoming dates. A parish supper and entertainment is planned for Union Congregational church on April 7.
Concord Grange No. 150 held Home Economics Night in Ellis Hall with a program on chicken raising. Miss Nettie A Wells presided, moving pictures on poultry were shown, sponsored by Burleigh L Pratt. A social hour followed with refreshments. Concord Grange accepted an invitation to visit Acton Grange.

June Bolduc nine and Helen Lindenmann eight, Roxbury children who played and studied together, drowned together in the Muddy River. They were laid to rest today in two white hearses with separate services and burials, after a joint moment as they were carried through Roxbury.
In Manchester New Hampshire Wilfred Lachance aged 32 recently out of work died by gas at his home and took his seven year old son Roger with him. The bodies were found by his wife Mrs Lachance upon returning from her mill job.
A landslide near Tentaday in Lima Province killed about 1000 people as of March 29, with earlier reports listing 76 bodies and 120 missing. Heavy rains caused the disaster.
Mrs Mary B Cheney wife of Levi R Cheney died Tuesday noon at her Maynard home after a brief illness. Born in Saugus Massachusetts she lived in Maynard over six years. She leaves two sons Howard R Cheney Worcester and Dr Ralph H Cheney Brooklyn two daughters Mrs Albert C Mentzer Cambridge and Mrs Arthur S Van Ostade Buffalo five grandchildren. Funeral at her late home Thursday afternoon at o'clock with Rev J Rex Shepler officiating.
Dick Loftus formerly of the National League will serve as playing manager for Arlington this season. He vows one of the fastest semi pro teams, with Redding from Pittsburg, Clancy from the International League, Walsh a former Holy Cross star and ex Giants player, plus local prospects for catcher and outfield roles.
Maynard Joe Kugima of Maynard and Sid Fardy of Acton staged a glam wrestling display at McGarry's Heppodrome on Monday night. Fardy finally defeated Kugima in 18 minutes with an arm lock and scissors. The card also featured multiple draws and fall victories, including Joe Lubin beating Goody Aho, and a free for all featuring several notable wrestlers. The crowd packed the barn for the lively event.
Tea room owners and prospective operators are invited to attend a session on Tea Room Management at the Middlesex Everett street office in Concord Massachusetts. Mrs Haynes of Massachusetts State College will lead a discussion on public food preferences hiring helpers and menu planning with guidance on setting fair prices.
The Young Cooperators Club weekly whist party drew a large crowd at the United Cooperative building on Monday night. A merphene disc worth five dollars was won by Elmer Peterson. many others received prizes including Agnes W. Driscoll Sirkka Lehtinen Margaret McCarthy Phyllis Savikovski and several more. A new party is planned for next Monday with a special whist on April 17.
Annursnac Grange met last Monday in Warner Hall West Concord. The group voted to curtail activities and held only a social gathering with Mrs Clara Sweet presiding.
Maynard resident Kazimierz Kurosky alias Kurowsky 19 Roosevelt Street was charged with bigamy in Concord district court. Police say he married Sophie Jurgo on July 26 192? and later wed Maryanne Pizouar on October 31 1981 in Worcester. The first wife cooperates with police and Kurosky appeared in court. A third marriage rumor in Russia remains unconfirmed.
Maynard's Ack Glee Club under Gavin Taylor will join 28 New England and Canada clubs for the New England Federation of Men's Glee Clubs contest and concert at Symphony Hall on Saturday. About 1000 singers assemble at 8 15 PM with Arthur Hburner conducting the Symphony Orchestra. Gertrude Ehrhart and federation officers lead as trophies and prize song follow the afternoon contest.
Concord lodge Elk's party at Elks hall awarded Miss Mary Boyce of Lincoln high score and first prize. John Bartolomeo Jr and Manley Boyce took second and third with many others receiving prizes. A follow up party is planned for Ellis' Hall tomorrow evening.
Miss Carolyn Guptill of Sudbury played the title role in The Piper by Josephine Prescott Peabody, presented last week by Abbott Academy seniors. Her handling of the difficult part was described as intelligent and sensitive.
The Concord Womans Club observed Presidents Day with guests from 27 clubs in the district though the guest of honor, Mrs Carl Schrader, could not attend due to Florida. Mrs George K. E. Benson presided. Mrs Miriam Frank Skirball spoke on American Drama of Today. In Bedford a trailer accident killed two boys, Russell Smith and Cormier, injuring others including Archie Smith Davis and Archibald, with mishap details and hospital updates.
On last Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. LS Perkins of Hartford Street hosted a surprise 10th wedding anniversary. Guests from Sudbury and Belmont attended, bringing two cakes and small gifts, with verses and laughter filling the room.
The Sudbury station of the railroad company, closed for years, may not reopen. Citizens urge proper approach to persuade the company to donate the building for town purposes, suggesting it would make a fine locker building if moved to the Community playground.
Bedford residents gathered at Concord Road for a Ways and Means PTA event. Mrs Polio won first in whist and Roland Wells led in bridge. More than 700 residents from surrounding towns registered at the Cooper Radio Electric Company store on Nason Street for its opening on Saturday. Several General Electric appliances were awarded to registrants, including a Hot Point Featherweight iron to Fred Marrino of 48 Douglas Avenue, a G B clock to Emily Mark of 10 Marlboro Street, a G B Toaster to A Bader of 18 Percival Street, and a G B Hot Point iron to W H Mann of 28 Concord Street.
David Hayes of 393 Aban Street West Concord reports his son was hit by an automobile Saturday afternoon as he darted across the street. The boy, aided by Clarence R Howat, was taken home and later to Emerson Hospital in Concord for treatment. He suffered cuts bruises and contusions but is reported to be recovering.
Several applications for beer licenses have been filed with the Sel men in Maynard. Frank S. Binks notes state policy will be set by the Legislature, affecting town actions on transportation. Maynard previously had four retail and two wholesale liquor licenses when Prohibition went into effect. each license carried a $1000 fee.
Albert Knoll, a former Concord resident with seventeen years in the drug business, opens a new drug store in Actom occupying the former Cooper location. He marks the event with a special April 1 celebration.
