The Herald reports a bill by Senator Weasley L. Jones for an inheritance tax with lineal and collateral descendants facing rising rates from 1 percent to 50 percent at higher thresholds. The measure aims to curb fortunes and protect government stability, proposing liberal allowances and post tax distributions.
The Underwood tariff bill cleared the House by 281 to 139 amid party lines. Five Democrats opposed, two Republicans supported. four Progressives backed it, 14 opposed, and one independent progressive joined the majority. Speaker Clark's announcement sparked a donkey toss in the chamber.
David La Chance, held in the city jail, appeared in superior court on a writ of habeas corpus. The judge ordered him remanded to Aberdeem city jail after police chief and city attorney addressed the telegraphic extradition order from Michigan. A Michigan official was expected to arrive today.
The High School Athletic association will host a carnival and minstrel show at the high school auditorium Friday evening May 16. Each class will participate and provide amusement as plans are laid on a comprehensive scale for a grand time for visitors.

Assessor Wiley adds $1.8 million to rolls and plans 40 percent valuation for timber, potentially adding $7 million. Lowering the overall levy to about 30 mills could attract investment and curb wasteful spending.

A large provisions donation will fund a St Andrews Episcopal church dinner served 12 to 1 30 by church volunteers in the Electric Building. Tickets are available at the Chamber of Commerce office Wishkah street.
Montesano May 7 The county commissioners approve a summer road plan with bids to open May 26 for Quinsault and North River roads. Projects include eight and a half miles of grading, relocation work, steel span bridges near Oakville and Wyncoche, and improvements on several county routes. Additional actions authorize a desk purchase, a right of way payment, bid payments, and a water pipe franchise for Hoquiam.
Advocates of the Wishkah street bridge call a public meeting in Aberdeen city hall tomorrow at 8 pm. Jno J Carney will promote a yes vote and debate the issue with Mayor Eugene France to inform taxpayers about the bond proposal and past bridge costs.
Judge Sheeks overruled Creech demurrer in Anna M. Welch v Creech suit for 35000 damages over her husband’s death last June. Case brought against Creech and wife. court sustained action against Mrs Creech, Creech to defend on merits.

Retiring Mayor Parks lauds $725000 in two year improvements, $245000 more contracted, cites fire water and police gains. New appointments include city attorney cross and chief of police Seaman with several temporary posts noted.
John G. Lewis, longtime Chehalis and Washington public official, offers Aberdeen two land tracts totaling 33.75 acres along Elliott slough with free title in escrow. City must invest 5 000 to signify use as a park, with local donors likely to fund improvements.
