Archer Wins Fifty Mile Motorcycle Race in Gale
In heavy rain and a 35 mile gale at Cohassett Beach Aberdeen and Hoquiam crowds saw Aubrey Archer of Aberdeen dominate the fifty mile race on a 7 HP machine finishing in 4 minutes 15 seconds. Avid Anderson of Hoquiam was second with W S McKean of Aberdeen third. Lawrence Larson won the 30 mile race for 4 HP motors in 36 minutes 51 and 2 fifths seconds. Ed French of Hoquiam won the 10 mile free for all in 8 minutes 10 and 3 fifths seconds. Officials included referee C J Ritchie and judges A W Featherly F A Polson and Ewart Lobdell.

Four Dead and Seven Injured in Oregon-Washington Train Wreck
Four people die and seven are injured when train No. 362 derails near Lakeview while traveling from Portland to Seattle at about 65 mph. Killed were F. A. Town, C. E. Reynovaan, Cal Andrew Nilssen, and R. H. McMurray. all in the smoking car. All victims crushed beneath the baggage coach. May 12 Hoquiam. Ralph L. Philbrick, R. W. Craig, H. P. Allbright and Charles Wolfe of Portland inspected Damon Point Oyster Company beds, planning at least one more carload of eastern seed oysters. Oysters planted in 1910 at Dyehut grew to mammoth size and are praised for flavor, with sacks gathered showing six inch specimens.
Mack's Shingle Mill Burns to Ground
Elma reported on May 10 that Mack's Spur mill known as Mack's mill burned to the ground Tuesday afternoon. The 30,000 shingles and the mill were lost the dry kiln and saved shingles. E A Leonard runs the mill and plans immediate rebuilding with some insurance protection.

Night Train Service Grays Harbor Owl Debuts
The first Grays Harbor Owl train arrived on time with railway officials and night riders from Portland and seven Seattle passengers. Portland delegates included C C Chapman W H McVay George Armstrong and others with Mrs Taylor. they visited O M Kellogg before returning on the night train. The train featured gas and electric lighting and modern Pullman cars Prescott and Vincennes with a day coach and a smoker baggage car packed with express matter.

Will launch steamer Bessie Mahoney at Matthews shipyards on June 14 barring accidents or bad weather. The 200 foot long lumber carrier has a 41 foot beam 14.5 foot hold depth and will carry about 1 000 000 feet of lumber with no passenger accommodations.

Naval Militia Division to Muster in Aberdeen
Captain Andrews commander of the Washington State Naval Militia will be in Aberdeen Thursday night to muster in the Aberdeen Division. BE McKenna who organized the division will take the exam for a commander's commission Wednesday and act as recruiting officer. Forty five enlisted men are required to keep the company and the muster roll may reach 75 names. The aim is to have the company organized armed and equipped for a 10 day Alaska cruise in the coming summer.

Hoquiam May 12 F A Powell visited the Brewer dairy farm at Satsop to study Jersey cattle. One cow in the herd holds the world butter production record, is six years old and valued at 5000 dollars. A younger Jersey yields 23 to 24 pounds per milking twice daily, with three milkings to be standard after this week.
