County Fair Moves to Elma in Elma

Elma wins state fair bid with new officers led by George W. Simpson and Karl France. Aberdeen retains debt oversight while Elma raises 2500 for fair year and leases land for 20 years to build racetrack. Officials seek 5000 annual county appropriation and stock drive begins. Regular levy set at 4 percent.

JETTY REPAIR INSPECTED BY U S ENGINEERS CHIEF

Major J H Cavanaugh of the corps of United States engineers inspected jetty repair work on the north jetty after visiting the dredger Oregon and meeting Alex Polson. He returned to Seattle yesterday. Crews extended the dock 250 feet and rebuilt about 275 feet of the 900 feet damaged by November storms.

Teachers Institute Opens in Chehalis County High School

More than 200 teachers attended the institute at J. M. Weatherwax High School in Chehalis county. Speakers included Isabelle Austin, dean of women at the state university, Joseph Hart and George Severance of state colleges. A high school debate on recall of state judges between Olympia and Aberdeen was won by local team Cynthia Allen and James McDonald with unanimous judge votes.

Governor Signs Abatement Act in Olympia

Governor Ernest Lister signed the abatement bill at 4 o'clock in Olympia with reporters present. The measure targets property used for illegal purposes and requires consideration of a place's reputation in evidence. The pen will be sent to C B Kegley, president of the state Grange, as a souvenir.

In Montesano on March 20 the jury awarded Robert Hoffman $5350 in damages from Dr. I R Watkins after a trial that lasted since Saturday. Jurors voted unanimously on both questions, and the verdict likely faces appeal. The trial ended after a brief afternoon argument following a morning of testimony.

Bealey Case Dismissed on Grounds of Res Judicata

After jury impanelment in the superior court the suit of Chas Bealey of this city against a former city councilman was non suited by Judge Irwin. The action is barred as a result of a prior suit and will be appealed to the supreme court.
