Surgeon General Gorgas announces the Medical Corps needs 17,000 more doctors for the army now. Qualified physicians between 22 and 55 may join as lieutenants, captains, or majors with pay up to 3000 annually plus 10 percent foreign service allowance.

A 16 foot elevated plank roadway and a six foot plank sidewalk will be installed on Young street per council resolution and City Engineer L D Kelsey recommendation to aid property owners toward the cemetery. The meeting also approved an ordinance against wandering dogs with escalating fines from five to one hundred dollars after repeated offenses. Damages were set at 615 for T C Moulton and 200 for Peter Zubrick for street improvements and grading respectively. An ordinance for Division street paving from Sixth to Eighth streets was also approved along with witness fees of 40 dollars in a bootlegging case.
John Sullivan and Joseph Rychlak were arrested yesterday by local authorities for failing to register. Sullivan claims 31 but papers show 27. Rychlak, a Aberdeen fire department member, claims under 21 though records list 23. County records indicate a liquor permit was issued in March. They may be turned over to federal authorities.
A recruiting station was opened this week by the torpedo boat crew near the old Michigan mill in South Aber deen to recruit for submarine chasers. Each ship requires a crew of 26 men and details are available at 902 1 2 East Heron Street from Chief Gunner's Mate William Morgan.
Starting yesterday an open circle of the Red Cross is held every Thursday by Mrs. Robert Ewart at the Red Cross headquarters in the Fairmont hotel. Attendants should bring their own scissors and thimbles. All Red Cross members not attached to a circle are welcome.
Pioneer resident of Hoquiam and Cosmopolis died June 11 in Bellingham. He settled here in 1883, went to the Klondike in 1897, and spent his later years on a ranch at Samas Puget Sound.
A cooperative cheese factory is planned for North River after a Friday meeting at the Vesta school house. W. C. Mumaw of the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce agriculture committee and County Agriculturist C. F. Monroe spoke, while J. M. Morgan serves as president and Homer Blaine as secretary of the temporary group preparing to start the venture.
Hoquiam June 22 A L Matheson manager of the Eureka Cedar Lumber and Shingle Co died yesterday at his home after six months illness He was 72 and a native of Nova Scotia He came to the United States in youth and to Washington about 20 years ago He built a shingle mill at Ballard and later helped his cousins build the Polson Shingle mill on the site of the present Eureka mill The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon
C. F. Doll increases bicycle stock by purchasing L. L. Luce's Hoquiam stock, expanding the Aberdeen Bicycle store and tying Luce to Doll in future operations.
Albert R. Davis of Cosmopolis died last Friday night at a local hospital following an operation. He is survived by his widow.
