J J Kaufman visited Portland and many residents traveled for Rose carnival and visits in Seattle Tacoma and Sweden. Community groups meet for clubs and church events while city projects including a new West Sixth Street bridge and hospital work progress.
Mr and Mrs Abraham Laschance and their son will depart next week for the Philippine Islands where Mr Laschance has taken a head filer job in a large mill. The family expects to stay two years.
The Franklin school graduation nights honors 28 grammar school pupils who passed the creditle examinations and earned diplomas from J. W. Hodge principal. The program featured orchestra, chorus, recitations, and scenes from Julius Caesar. The graduates listed include Arthur Anderson, Welcome Goehrend, Peter Foelkner, Rena Milette, Minnie Penn, Florence Kolts, Marie O’Hare and others.
The executive committee meets at 7 30 p m in Secretary Allen's office to consider proposed amendments. President Miller urges full attendance due to important chamber and city matters to be discussed.
Officers were chosen at the Aberdeen Civic Improvement Association meeting last week with Mrs L G Hamburger re elected president and Mrs L L Goodnow as first vice president. Other officers include Mrs A J Morley second vice president Mrs Girk Chamberlain corresponding secretary Mrs Arthur Wilson recording secretary Mrs F A Bousfield treasurer and Mrs William Irvine press correspondent. The group will assist the Fourth of July committee with the floral display and automobile parade on July 2.
The Washington dredger is nearly ready to pump river bottom onto tideflats west of Broadway from Lindstrom shipyard. Power will come from the Anderson and Middleton mill before July 1. Twenty pontoons are under construction to carry pipes. The project requires 1.5 million cubic yards of earth, 250 acres cleared, 4.75 feet of sewer lines laid, and 5000 cubic yards of sawdust removed. Over 25 residences in the fill district must be raised up to five feet.
The CHAMPION will run Sunday excursions from Montesano to Westport with stops at Cosmopolis Aberdeen and Hoquiam. Departs Montesano 7:00 am arrives Westport 11:00 am returns 4:00 pm. Round trip fare under the master Peter Wilson. Channel and schedule details indicate weekly weekend sailings.
