Annual Flower Show Planned by Aberdeen Civic Group

The Aberdeen Civic Improvement association met last week and decided to hold the annual Aberdeen Flower Show on August 30. The venue is to be decided from several offered locations. Committees were named for general arrangements and various floral divisions with members listed.

Hoquiam Grays Harbor mill closes for upgrades

The Grays Harbor Lumber company in Hoquiam shut its mill Saturday night for extensive repairs and installation of a Curtis turbine and new edger saws. About 24,000,000 feet of lumber remain in stock, so current orders need no immediate cutting. The 500 kilowatt turbine will add 833 horsepower, relieving boilers, and the 14 by 72 edger saws from Simonds will be among the largest used.

Autoists Boost Southwest Fair Tour and Events

Twenty members of the Centralia Auto Club toured Grays Harbor to promote the Southwest Washington fair to be held August 25 to 30 between Centralia and Chehalis. The schedule features Arrangements day, Seattle Tacoma and Portland day with 2:12 trot and 2:2 pace races, and Olympia Grays Harbor Willapa Harbor day with multiple horse races and a half mile running event.

Elma Schools Open Delayed Start for Teachers

Elma in September first week teachers will attend a county institute in Aberdeen. The Elma schools begin for students on September 8, while teachers report September 2 with a week of regular pay for the institute. J W Hodge is the new county superintendent overseeing the plan.
