In Seoul a new wave of escapes from Allied stockades swelled the total to about 26,000 anti-Communist prisoners liberated in South Korea. More than 1,800 escaped from five prison camps and a hospital last night and this morning as defiance against the U N Command escalated.
The Commu nists said they have an important subject to discuss as Red and Allied truce negotiators prepare for a full dress crisis session in Munsan that could decide the armistice’s fate.
Seoul reports President Syngman Rhee has freed thousands of anti-Communist war prisoners and urged President Eisenhower to seek a different Korean War remedy than an armistice. The U N command recorded counts of released and remaining prisoners, with some discrepancies. A full dress armistice delegation meeting was scheduled for Saturday. Rhee reiterated that a mutual defence pact is desired but would be hollow if tied to the armistice.
U S Sabre jets destroyed six Communist MiGs in air battles high over Northwest Korea. Ground fighting persisted along the Central front with a Chinese Red advance probing South Korean positions. Capt Ralph Parr of Apple Valley Calif claimed his sixth kill in 12 days, part of a 28 mission tally as fighter bombers pressed the front and supply lines. A new Marine air squadron arrived on Korea’s west coast aboard the carrier Bairolo, adding to air power in the broader conflict.
Tokyo dispatch reports 124 Globemaster airlifters grounded while investigators probe a deadly crash that killed 129 American servicemen. Air Force teams identify 122 airmen and seven crew members. most victims were en route back to Korea after leave. Names of the dead were withheld.
Berlin reports show Soviet martial law cracking East Berlin unrest as workers return to jobs after Wednesday’s bloody revolt. West Berlin appeals for high level talks with Moscow while Allies demand end to the blockade. American backers condemn the execution of a West Berlin truck driver by a Soviet firing squad as brutal. Otto Nischke and Bishop Otto Dibelius figure in post riot developments as flags drop to half staff in West Berlin and mourning plans begin for the victims.
Funeral services for Karl Sturz 75 of 1215 Blue Avenue a retired tailor will be at 2 30 Monday at the Frost Avenue chapel of Mader Peoples funeral home. Rev Donald J Barthelmeh will officiate burial will be in Greenwood. He died suddenly at 650 last night of a heart attack born in Ostheim Germany came to the United States in 1893 and opened the Sturz Tailor shop on Main Street in 1900 retired in 1927.
Independence Missouri reports former President Truman and Mrs Truman will depart today on an automobile journey to Washington for a first post presidency visit. Washington friends expect a Monday arrival for a five day stay to meet former Senate colleagues, former Cabinet members, and attend lunch with Truman Memorial Library Association officials.
Senator McCarthy warned he has known for some time that Communists marked him for assassination and named Lou Bortz as a suspected organizer. The Senate subcommittee heard testimony from Joseph Mazzei a former FBI counter spy who said the party discussed liquidation plans and that some senators might be on the list. Mundt indicated more evidence exists but offered few specifics while McCarthy avoided discussing bodyguards or weapon carry.
A roof fire at the Summit County jail in Akron sent more than 100 prisoners fleeing to the street where guards police and sheriffs deputies herded them to safety. They were later moved to Berberton Cuyahoga Falls and Akron facilities with no disorder or escapes reported.
A Rhode Island Red hen hatched nine eggs under her care. Instead of chicks, nine ducklings emerged and naturally swam. The builder found their eyes during excavation on Long Island. The hen, puzzled, guards the ducks by the water each day.
Funeral services for Homer W. Hendrixson 73 of Clearwater Fla former partner in the Mader Peoples funeral home will be held at 10 20 o clock Monday morning at Moss funeral home Clearwater. Burial will be in Sylvian Abbey Clearwater. He died suddenly at 7 30 last night at his home 1009 Woodcrest avenue Oak Acres Clearwater of a heart attack. A native of Georgetown Ohio he studied in Cincinnati and Beallsville before joining Smith funeral home in Lancaster and moving to Zanesville in 1911 where he led Peoples Undertaking Co becoming manager in 1916. The Peoples company later continued in Clearwater.
Barbara Anne Darling wife of an ousted Ohio State University professor and her sister Flora Webster were accused by FBI witness Bereniece Baldwin of being active Communists in 1944. Baldwin testified she joined Michigan Communist ranks in 1943 and saw Darling report at the party convention.
In Columbus the Ohio Senate moved to a near balanced 837 million dollar two year state budget for a showdown vote. Republicans voiced confidence they could block requests to restore more than seven million in welfare cuts while maintaining a six million charge off against the Industrial Commission insurance fund. Democrats aimed to restore welfare funds but anticipated backing the governor’s proposed industrial fund charge off.
Ohio congressman Robert Secrest joined six fellow Republicans opposing the administration foreign aid authorization bill. He warned he will vote against it unless substantial cuts are made. Other Ohio members weighed whether to support the $5.47 billion measure as debate began.
The Supreme Court, by a 6 to 3 vote, struck down Justice Douglas's barrier to the execution of atomic spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. The couple have sat on death row in Sing Sing for two years as court battles and public opinion shaped their fate. A tentative 10 p.m. EST stay was discussed as lawyers filed motions for a full Court stay.
The Supreme Court refused a new temporary stay for Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, the atom spy couple, as a White House review of a clemency plea awaited decision. President Eisenhower rejected an appeal to spare them.

Paris President Vincent Auriol watched National Assembly votes as candidates for the Premiership were rejected hoping to form a majority. Radical Socialist Andrew Marie was eliminated early amid a 30 day postwar crisis. Auriol eyed independents, with Antoine Pinay as a possible choice.
Braniff pilot Lewis Wilson spotted a white box kite at about 500 feet off the left wing tip while landing at Dallas Airport at dusk. He found a boy and girl, ages four and five, at the far end of 1150 feet of string and helped bring down the kite and the young pair.
