Ohio Power officials announced five streets will activate new street lights next week after installation. Puinsem Maysville Ninth Greenwood Maple avenues will receive 1000 candlepower lamps once final checks are complete, with Main street slated for replacements later.
Gen. Omar N. Bradley told Senate appropriations hearings that U S armed forces could fight a major war by July 1951 though a disaster could occur without mobilization. He cautioned that industry and mobilization base are essential to win if war is thrust upon the nation.
Former Nationalist China foreign minister and brother of Madame Chiang Kai-shek resigns from the central executive committee. He announced the move while in New York with a crew, amid tensions over Formosa and unity issues within the party.

Soldier Browns Morrisville Pennsylvania reports the death of George W Barn 2, of Lorain Whip, who drowned in an abandoned gravel pit near the eastern Pennsylvania town shortly before dawn today.
FBI Chief J Edgar Hoover testified to Congress that U S Communists are going underground with more subversive activities than at any time since World War II. He warned that 48 percent of Communist party membership is in core U S industries and that infiltration has intensified in steel, heavy machinery, mining, communications, transportation, electrical and related sectors. He cited strategic areas including New York New Jersey Ohio Pennsylvania California and Michigan as most affected.
The city board of education rejected all bids for electrical work on the Wilson school addition as too high and will re advertise bids. Bids for the Westview addition will be opened the same day. Drawings and specifications are available from Uiteau Guenther and Associates of Cleveland.

Mrs. Laura Bail, 48, of Negrey, died in Salem City hospital from burns suffered April 23 when a kerosene heater exploded in a chicken brooder at her farm home. Fire officials said the accident occurred at her farm residence and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment before death.

A five year old boy shot and killed his three year old brother in the family home while the father was at work and the mother rested nearby. Sheriff Bateman said Cecil Hart Jr. took his father's shotgun and fired into the sleeping child on the living room floor. Coroner Joan H Elias ruled the death accidental.
A Brooklyn grand jury indicted Harry Gold, a Philadelphia chemist, and two unknowns on charges of atom spying against the United States. The indictment, announced by the justice department, names John Doe and Richard Roe as aliases. Gold was arrested May 23 in Philadelphia. the case links to Klaus Fuchs and alleged wartime secret data transfers.
The State Board of Tax Appeals ruled real estate values in Zanesville and Muskingum County inequitable and improper, ordering a reappraisal for tax assessments. The move surprised county officials, with Auditor Paul Kirke stating he had no advance notice and noting earlier indications of satisfactory valuations. The reappraisal could cost Muskingum County over 50000, following last 1943’s 45900 expense, as total real estate value rose to 108,206,960 the prior year.
AH 10 youths who took part in a mass escape from the Boy Industrial School at Lancaster Wednesday have been captured. Richard Miller, 17, of this city, escaped alone and remains at large, according to state patrol. The last three of the 10 were picked up by Columbus police in a park: Richard Leyman, 17, Salem. Billy Davis, 8, MacConnelsville. and Jack Harris, 12, Columbus.
Henry H. Greeniey aged 36 of 1428 St Johns street was fined 150 dollars and costs and sentenced to 30 days in county jail with his drivers license suspended permanently after pleading guilty in municipal court. He was arrested on the South River road by Deputy Sheriff Frank Mattey. Greenley had prior license revocation in Dayton in 1947 for DUI and suspension in 1948 in municipal court here. He recently applied in Cleveland for a license under the name Henry Greenlee and may face a charge of false application in Cuyahoga county.
A Navy Grumman TBM torpedo bomber with a crew of three is down about 70 miles east of Cape Henry in the Atlantic during anti submarine training. Three other planes from Norfolk Naval Air Station reported a submarine in the area and one plane went down. The USS Tigrone relayed the SOS to the air station amid a large search effort.
