Three Zanesville sailors Howard L. Downing Leland D. Wright and Bernard J. Hohman aboard the USS Baltimore docked at Spithead England await review by Britain's new queen. Baltimore crew of 1400 officers and men will man the rail and cheer as the queen’s royal yacht passes a line of 90 warships. The ship had been on Sixth Fleet duty in the Mediterranean before detaching for England for the coronation.
Washington Republicans agreed to scrap a proposed ban on U S funds for the United Nations if Red China is admitted to the UN. Sen Bridges said Eisenhower endorsed a substitute urging both Houses to oppose admission of Chinese Communists under any circumstances.
In Circleville Ohio the first permanent steel girders were installed for Du Ponts new 10 million dollar Plant. The facility will be finished late next year and will produce a plastic like film for industrial use.
The Perry county grand jury opened in New Lexington to consider a second degree murder charge against Rudolph Elfrink 50 an employee of St. Aloysius Academy farm for the May 18 slaying of George Kilbarger 35 a fellow worker. Kilbarger died from five .22 caliber rifle shots after an afternoon of dispute in the academy farmhouse per Sheriff David Moore.
In Portsmouth Ohio the Scioto County Common Pleas Court begins hearings on an injunction filed August 29 by Negro parents against the Portsmouth School Board. They seek to stop operating Washington School until alleged inadequate facilities and segregation are eliminated.
NEW YORK. U S Marshal William A. Carroll announced today Julius and Ethel Rosenberg will be executed at 10 p m EST on June 18 after a conference with Warden Wilfred Denno at Sing Sing. Defense attorney Emanuel H Bloch pressed last ditch efforts including a possible new trial and motion for a stay. The U S Court of Appeals considers a stay and sentence change to 20 years. Bloch may seek rehearing before the Supreme Court by June 9 and may again petition President Eisenhower for clemency.
Mrs. Thomas Phillips, 85, fell 25 feet into an abandoned coal mine after a sidewalk collapsed Monday. Firemen used a ladder to rescue her after 45 minutes of entrapment. She sustained minor injuries and was treated at a hospital. Her daughter Nancy Sue, 5, escaped the pit and fetched help from a neighbor.
London crowds gathered along Piccadilly to greet the coronation while a clubroom window view contrasted a noble peer sipping champagne with a slum child munching an apple.
