Family’s Joy Turned to Grief
A Perry County family learned their son Jullux Lucas, a 25 year old machinist mate second class in the U S Navy, was killed in action during Pearl Harbor. The navy reported his death after a card dated December 4 said he was well. Lucas, a Shawnee high school graduate, is believed to be Perry county’s first Pacific war fatality.

West Pike crash injures Mrs Haehnien in Columbus trip
Mrs Haehnien of Marwood Drive was hurt when the automobile skidded off the National Highway near Linnville and struck a tree. Her brother Otto Rafe sustained minor injuries. Mrs Haehnien suffered a fractured right arm and bruises while the driver Raike was treated for labor injuries and discharged. The collision occurred while en route to Columbus.
