Former Lorain County Sheriff William F. Grall headed to the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus after a one to ten year term on a vice bribery conviction. He was in custody at the jail he once supervised as aides said his appeal would be costly. Grall, unable to post 7500 dollars bond, left after a nine woman by three men jury convicted him following a three and a half hour deliberation. His attorney prepared a motion for a new trial. Grall, father of six, cited his wife’s ill health as reason for mercy but was denied probation. He was charged with accepting bribes from Maxine Barhour, who ran a nearby establishment. she was indicted but not apprehended.

Two Trapped In Nora Coal Mine Explosion
An explosion at the Nora Coal mine near Shinnston Harrison County trapped two coal cutters, Davis and Winemiller, as rescue crews worked. Gunmen Escape After Battle With Police in Detroit
Police seek clues to three armed men who fled after a three mile gun battle with a police cruiser. Their abandoned car carried sawed off shotguns rifles pistols ammunition and explosives and had license plates from Ohio New York Connecticut and Rhode Island.
