Four southeastern Ohio soldiers including two from Zanesville are reported missing in action. Pte James Hartman of Barberton, formerly Zanesville, missing in Germany since Nov 22. Pfc Albert Goins of 830 Turner St missing in Italy since Nov 19. Pvt Vernon Weisand of Waterford, missing in France since Nov 11. Pfc Bernard Crum of Caldwell, missing in France since Nov 14. Hartman, a Lash High grad, was overseas since September. Goins inducted March 21, 1941, with four months overseas. Weisand started in anti aircraft then infantry, overseas since August. Crum, Caldwell High grad, enlisted August 1942.

Belmont County Miners Renew Strike Over Exits
Four hundred miners at Rail and River Coal No 6 mine in Bellaire renewed a protest demanding exits for methane gas in the shaft. The men had returned to work last week after a brief layoff, and a UMWA spokesman said company and state mine officials did not bring miner representatives on a tour that prompted the walkout.

Man Indicted for Harboring Local WAC
A federal grand jury in Buffalo, New York indicted Jake Williams, 43, of Buffalo, on charges of harboring and concealing WAC Pvt. Irene Way, 30, formerly of Zanesville, listed AWOL by Selfridge Field authorities. The indictment says Williams knew Way was AWOL when he allegedly harbored her from April until last week. Way was detained as a material witness after her arrest. Way joined the WAC in Buffalo and worked as a medical technician at Bradley Field, Connecticut.
