A Christmas program features a reception with refreshments organized by Catherine Whaiman and decorations by Elnora Longstreth. The event highlights a holiday Tex as a feature of the affair.
Don Summers of the Muskingum county Red Cross announced an extensive life saving and first aid program. Preliminary courses led by local instructors Ralph Miller and Clark McCurdy start Dec 29 at the YMCA, with a more rigorous Red Cross session by George Costello of Washington DC beginning Jan 16.
Mrs Ronald Tharp reported a pocketbook stolen from the front seat of her automobile Saturday evening. The purse contained $9 and was taken while she was in Meister grocery on the street. Police were told the theft occurred while the vehicle was parked.
The NLRB ordered Diamond T Car Co of Chicago to end its contract with the Automobile Workers union while the CIO steel workers drive sought employee organization. The board found the company aided to form an internal union and its vice president C A Pierce urged employees to choose negotiators from any union. A secret ballot elected the inside union.
Kenneth Blowers, 30, of East Pike, was arrested Saturday evening by Capt Milt Stotts and Bailiff Harvey Painter on a worthless check charge. The $2 check was given to T F Schails. Blowers likely appeared in municipal court Monday morning. An automobile driven by Harold of Zanesville Route 3 sustained minor damage Saturday evening in a sideswipe incident, police reports indicate.
Mrs Stella Hunter of Market street has word of a mess of the air shows and Scheffler in this city. Detroit visitors include A Sagle Arthella Waits. Miss Rush Kolling secretarial Red Cross left for Marietta after a stay in this city. Winter wreaths and home decorations feature Watkins & Son. Mr and Mrs Francis Barnett and son Ward Barnett visited. Rogge and Yea zel attended the Ohio Hotels Association convention in Dayton. Birth notices: Mr and Mrs Robert Stanford announce a daughter. Mr and Mrs Arthur DeVol welcome a son at Good Samaritan hospital. Various residents plan trips, visits, and vacations to Ashland Kentucky, Grand Valley PA, Smoky Mountains, Parkersburg WVa, and other locales.
St. Ann's Church Dresden announces its annual chicken supper and bazaar to be held Thursday evening December 14 from 5 to 8 pm. Fancy work home made candy and other items will be sold and various games with prizes will be awarded to winners in the contests.
The YMCA Mothers Club plans a rummage sale Monday from 5 to 9 pm at the YMCA and asks for article donations. The group also sponsors a January 3 card party to raise funds for underprivileged boys of Zanesville.
Kappa Alpha Theta alumnae club will hold a Monday evening meeting at the home of Miss Frances Johnson on Convers Avenue. Miss Rowena Dodd, the president, will preside and plans will be made for a Christmas basket to aid a needy family.
Zanesville plans a downtown Christmas celebration starting Monday at 6 o’clock with St John’s Lutheran Church choir of 25 voices at the Ohio Power building. The series, organized by merchants, ministers, and power company, runs nightly with loudspeakers in the downtown area. The first program features the Lutheran choir directed by Mrs. Jen Emery, with organist Mrs. Graham, performing pieces such as The Three Kings, Angels from the Realms of Glory, Hark the Herald, and O Come All Ye Faithful, as decorative lights and a rotating flasher system illuminate the building. The famous Organ, owned by Everett Piano Co., will provide music for 18 programs. An additional Muskegon College choir of 45 voices performs Tuesday evening, with selections including Oh Christmas Night and Silent Night, under Milton F. Rehg. Decorations light at 7:30 p.m. Monday, a half hour before showtime. Christmas Seals remind TB is not inherited.
Within thirty days the last of the three pans in our new building by Dunzweiler Construction Co at Maple Ave and Dresden Road will be offered for lease. The 25 by 60 foot room will be finished in white with linoleum floors Venetial blinds etc. The basement spans the room and will be white and heated with period heating. City Hall unveils a festive display featuring a large decorated Christmas tree at the main rotunda and illuminated spotlights at each corner. Finley Chappalear designed the decorations, produced under the city WPA improvement program by the city engineering department staff, marking a first-time holiday display.
City officials announced that decorating City Hall during the Christmas season will likely become an annual practice. The effort mirrors previous decorations on the Munterjay building in Martins Ferry Ohio, directed by Mayor Lin Wound.
