The body of Mrs. Lucile Teter, 2 days married to Worthy Teter, was found in woods near Belington. An accidental gun discharge after a stumble is suspected. the weapon with one shell discharged was found beneath her body. Sheriff Everett Hut investigated as search efforts continued overnight.
Coroner Paul Henry withheld a verdict in the death of a 6 year old man found in a locked Toledo house with seven fires set. The body, Amon Goslin, lay on a second floor utility area. no foul play found though detectives noted multiple flames ignited by flammable liquid. Firemen broke in as the blaze spread through seven spots.
New York police seized a large quantity of narcotics believed destined for sale in theatrical venues and clubs. Two men, Jack Gordon aged 40 and Edward Eichler aged 49, both from New York, were arrested in Go. Payee cs Foom. Narcotics.
An American air raid executed three war criminals today, raising total executions to 91 in postwar groups. The mass executions follow wartime atrocities linked to Nazi leaders and collaborators.
Miss Nellie Ewan deputy clerk in Muskingum county probate court was badly hurt when her car overturned near Irville shortly after 8 am. She suffered a fractured right collar bone and head lacerations. Passers by found her and later relatives moved her to Bethesda hospital. The accident occurred at the junction of Routes 155 and 146 as she tried to turn from Route 146 onto Route 156.
Six Zanesville tenants were refunded a total of 449.33 after overcharging under rent control. Edward F. Wagner, area rent director, announced the settlements made after conferences with landlords and tenants. The largest refund was 150 for 530 per month overcharges for five months. The father was treated for burns and the mother hospitalized with shock. The only entry to the wooden house was the front door as the other exterior door to the bedroom area was locked for water.
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, known as the Christmas City, lit a 6 foot Christmas tree made of many smaller trees with 120 lights on the plaza at the hill linking North and South Bethlehem. From South Mountain the star beacon shone over the area drawing thousands to view the holiday display. More than 40,000 people were expected to visit the industrial center during the seasonal spectacle.
A car traveling on U S Route 3 two towns west of Bucyrus collided with a truck after slowing to pass a parked vehicle. The state patrol identified the dead as Anna L. Carr 44 driver Rieta Weithman 22 and Angelo Chineili all of Ganon.
Nanking reports the Communist capture of Suchow after evacuaton of the nationalist base 211 miles northwest of Nanking. The Red radio claimed the city last night while government forces withdrew 250,000 men to free another army group in the Suhsien sector. Foreign observers estimate Suchow’s effective combat strength at 110,000.
NAMNBING Hollington Tong, spokesman for the Chinese government, announced his resignation today. He had served as director of information since April 1947 and was among the closest aides to President and Madame Chiang Kai-Shek.
