Two Die In West Pike Crash Near Hopewell High School

Early today near Hopewell High School on Westpike, a two-vehicle crash killed George H. Henery Jr. and Opal Monlux as their car sideswiped a Dayton driver then struck an oncoming Greyhound bus. The bus carried 35 passengers, none hurt. Henery and Monlux died at the scene. A separate late-night crash near Malta killed 18-year-old Richard Bateson, with five others injured. Reported clashes across Cuba left 11 soldiers and 6 rebels dead, with a woman, a customs employee, and a prisoner freed as rebels attacked police stations. Ten Crewmen Die in B52 Jet Bomber Crash in California

The eight jet B52 bomber of the Strategic Air Command smashed into a plowed field four miles north of Merced California during takeoff. Witnesses reported a massive flash and a two mile fire streak with wreckage spread over three miles. Nine bodies were found in one area and a tenth near the initial impact site.
