Relief rolls in Muskingum County have dropped from a peak of about 3 000 families on relief to around 1 200 by mid January. FERA authorities and local officials cite shifts to WPA projects and local channels as the reason for the decline.
The county faces a financing crisis as relief costs rise while a one mill road levy fails. Officials warn funds from federal WPA projects may be insufficient to sustain aid for over 1,000 families and 800 destitute households, with ongoing work at WPA projects in jeopardy.
In Cleveland on November 30 Lila Lee and James Kirkwood, estranged spouses, greet each other with a kiss at the funeral of Charles L. Appel aged 63 in Elyria. Their 11-year-old son James Jr. also attends. Kirkwood is in a Cleveland theatrical engagement. Their son lives with an aunt in Elyria.
A 16 year old New Jersey girl, Lilian Lennehihan, underwent surgery in New York after an open safety pin was taken from her small intestine. The operation by Dr. Arthur Wright was deemed successful with the patient's condition reported as good. The pin had shifted its position and pressed against the intestinal wall prompting the procedure.
General John J. Pershing and United States army aviators Captains Albert W. Stevens and Dr Wil A. Anderson will be awarded gold medals by the National Geographic Society. The ceremony details appear in a wartime notice dated March 30.

Clarence W. Cashbaugh 63 of 625 Lenox avenue died suddenly at 7:30 PM Saturday from a heart attack triggered by influenza. Born in Zanesville on July 9 1878 he spent his life in the city and held posts with Stevens wholesale grocery Wiles Grocery Co and Ohio Brokerage Co. Survived by brother Lawrence Cashbaugh and four grandchildren he was a Masonic member. Body taken to Madez Peoples Undertaking Co for preparation before home services.
The Zanesville post office reports receipts up 24 percent from last year and a 4.2 percent gain for the first two months of the last quarter. If Christmas business holds, 1935 could become a record year for the office. Postmaster Howard McCracken and Assistant D W Armstrong note strong quarterly gains.
In Goodland Kansas on November 10 sleet charmed wild ducks unable to fly along local highways. After thawing postwar they regained flight but many were still bound, with several birds unable to take off.
Louis Johns Jr. held at Ohio State Penitentiary under guard for a Thanksgiving home visit with his ailing father. Wardens arranged the four year separation after the murder of Civil War veteran Tip Gay at Cannelville. A community gathering and turkey dinner at 129 State Street followed the homecoming, as Johns’ friends and family welcomed the rare reunion.
In Columbia Missouri on November 30 Miss Lourie Luckey twenty one of Alton and James Scamman of Rock Port both former University of Missouri students were found unconscious in a parked auto from carbon monoxide poisoning. Police located them on the outskirts of town and Miss Luckey who had been outspoken about university morals faced denials from Dr Frederick A Middlebush. The mother said the pair are engaged.
In St Louis on Nov 90 A F Scott McBride general superintendent of the Anti Seloon League of America says a two year survey indicates probable repeal of prohibition by 1945. The forecast rests on observed repeal effects across 44 states. Nelson McCoy heads to Chicago and California to inspect pottery plants on the west coast before business trips.
A jailed man nicknamed Uncle Joe, Cameron T1 and 4 newlywed, admitted to transforming increased relief allotment into home made whisky using sugar and corn. United States Commissioner Arno Ponder quoted him. Officers found a small still above his cook yesterday.
Lawsville Kentucky reports the death of Henry M. Baker sixteen a freshman guard on Ormsby Tillage High School football after a spinal injury from a October twenty fifth game against Oxolona high that ended six to six. The state registrar also announced that 1936 fishing licenses go on sale December tenth.
Pueblo, Colorado, November 30. D. W. Danielson, 63, faced sore throat after swallowing his false teeth in a nap-induced episode. Unable to eat, he searched the house until an X ray located the full upper plate lodged in the esophagus and it was removed last night.

In Georgetown Kentucky on November 30 sheriff says 24 year old Francis Warren claimed he killed his father in a drunken rage after his sister Betsy Warren cried for help while her father struck her. Warren faces charges and is released on bond pending examination Friday.

Five crew members aboard the Socony tanker 90 escaped unharmed after a late night blast aboard the vessel anchored south of Albany. Officials attributed the explosion to gases in an empty stern tank. The cook suffered minor burns while fighting the flames. The ship is owned by Standard Oil of New York. Amber snow plow lights to be used nationwide this winter.
Citizens will vote January 14 on a bond proposal worth 70,400 dollars to fund the city’s share of federal works projects. The plan includes a swimming pool, elimination of a grade crossing, and a storm sewer system.

Nov 2041 Lucas County deputies report Louwis Busch of Toledo died returning from a hunting trip in an auto collision near Swanton Ohio. John Czajka 33 of Swanton driver of the other car fled the scene but was arrested later. Czajka held for coroner. Shapira and five charged with driving offenses.
