Social event at the M E church announced with ice cream cake and home made candy for sale. Local visits include Mrs Geo Webster of Yerington and Reno is noted for illness of D D Elder. Several residents traveled to Carson, Twin Lakes, and Sacramento area with various trips and visits.
Articles of incorporation of the Hay Harvesting Company Inc were filed by John W O Banion William M Williams and Charles H Burritt. The firm plans to manufacture and sell a hay harvesting machine combining cultivator hay rake hay buncher and loader with patents held by Williams and O Banion.
The American Legion local branch announces a Grand Harvest Ball on Saturday September 17 with music by a six piece orchestra. It starts a series of Saturday night dances planned for the coming season.
Ambus Archer traveled from Los Angeles to Yerington while Tony Manha showcased a new threshing rig and tractor recently bought by a rancher group in the Meissner district.
Frank Tracey, 19, a Bermond Page Contracting employee, was killed at Topaz Lake when a shotgun discharged as he stumbled during a mudhen hunt with companion Wells. Mono county coroner ordered an inquest in Coleville. Body shipped to Reno for funeral. Tracey, a Reno native, had recently joined the camp with his father.
The Fernley Farm Bureau center met to review marketing association progress. Reports covered a Reno organization meeting, culling results from Chas Friedhoff’s flock, and demonstrations on calling, sewing, and canning. Local cantaloupe prospects and Churchill County fair exhibits were also discussed. Cotton plants from Nevada Copper Belt Railroad were shown in the bureau window.
The Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution urging the State Highway Commission to continue the road south from Yerington, focusing on Plummer flat where construction is termed almost impossible. Commissioners Austin and Bertrand depart for Carson to seek advancing funds due to the county’s inability to meet its share.
Norman Dickson and Miss Alice Tidd obtained a marriage license from the County Clerk yesterday and are to be married in Minden today. Jeff Rice was among Saturday evening visitors from Wabuska.
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Gurr spent their vacation at Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake and returned Friday. Jan Bott left Monday for San Francisco then Searle's Military Academy Palo Alto. Freshmen from Mason registered at Yerington High School Tuesday. Donald Askins Lenora Dickson Stephen Shirtz Norman Welge Irene Kidd Ione Carroll Cecilia Rector Mrs P H Cook and daughters Helene and Inez returned from Omaha. I. S. Dickson and family plus Miss Leah Barker camped at Mono Forest over the holiday. Mr. and Mrs. G Ashby of Oakland visited Mr and Mrs G Sturgeon last week. John T. Moore left Tuesday for Virginia City for contract work. Roy M. Kidder son Sheldon and Chas Shirtz and son Stephen returned from a fishing trip in the Sweetwater country. The Union Honey Co shipped their first car load of honey Tuesday. James Keir and Snooks Webster left for Fernley to ship another car load. A surprise party was given Monday afternoon to Lee Sophie Katherine and Bobby Hansen with a large group present. The afternoon featured games and refreshments. Mrs. George Ellis and Mrs Chas Shirtz hosted a party Saturday afternoon with many locals in attendance.
Fire Prevention Week runs October 3 to 10 nationwide. Fire Chief Kelly calls for city wide effort by chambers, safety groups, and officials to curb fire losses. Plans include burning dry grass, two men at hoses, and adding fire plugs and new hose for the truck to improve safety.
Hughie Mcxen Evelyn Baldini marry in late night ceremony officiated by Judge Blanchard. They depart for Reno for a honeymoon, surprising friends in Yerington where they have lived for years. The Times wishes them happiness. Also notes Yerington Social League party at Mrs J T Sweat's home and Max Ostroskey’s return from Reno and Virginia City.
A large crowd from Yerington Fallon and nearby towns attended Fernley’s Labor Day celebration. Yerington won boxing honors and a few footraces but failed to place in the Ford race or ball game. Fernley defeated Yerington 10 4 in a late ball game, while Fallon captured a $50 purse over Fernley. The boxing match Molly Malone of Yerington defeated Hollingsworth of Lovelock amid spectator dissatisfaction.
The Red Cross Nursing Service launches a nationwide drive for 3500 nurses to care for ex servicemen in hospitals. Miss Lillian L. White calls for 7 enlistments in California Nevada Arizona and Utah with details and pay schedules provided by Red Cross nursing committees.
Warren of Yerington Nevada state trap shooting champion led the Rose City Hundred at the Portland Gun Club breaking 148 of 150 targets. Mrs. J Latina of Wabuska visited Yerington on Monday afternoon.
Yerington Commercial Club vows a vigorous fight against a proposed Southern Pacific train service change. If approved, Yerington would lose train and mail service four days a week. A Nevada Public Service Commission hearing is set for September 13, with a Commercial Club meeting Friday discussing protest plans.
The bill shifts the annual assessment on unpatented mining claims from December 31 to July 1, with Alaska locations starting July 1. Existing claims retain a July 1 deadline. Lawmakers note the change extends the period by six months to 1922 and aims to avoid winter work in snowbound locations.
Thomas Marks of Reno was fatally struck when a 30-30 rifle fired by Abert Edwards and Jerome Gross, testing a rifle in a back yard about half a mile away, sent a round through a window where Mrs. Marks sat at a sewing machine.

Government Clean-up Squad from the Bureaus handling disabled ex service claims tours Nevada cities. In Carson City September 19 and Goldfield September 21 eligible veterans with service related disabilities may discuss claims and receive aid including transportation lodging and meals by writing to the Contact Unit in San Francisco detailing route and basis for the claim.
