The St Josephs church bazaar and dance on St Patrick’s day drew large crowds and strong proceeds. A daytime bazaar run by the Catholic Ladies featured popular booths while an evening rink event offered music by the Grimmer orchestra. Mary Cox sang Irish tunes to hearty encores. Esther Ryan’s Irish jig drew cheers. Raffles by Mrs. Julia Kelly and Mrs. Charles Gallagher awarded a painting from Mrs Curry to Mrs. Cleve Hughes and a silver dish from Miss Lucille Gallagher and Miss Humphrey to Ed. Gallagher.

Conspirators jailed in Michigan election case defeat
Truman S. Newberry Michigan senator was convicted in Grand Rapids on a 1918 conspiracy to violate election laws. He received two years and a $10,000 fine, released on bond pending appeal, and plans to keep his seat unless the Senate or Supreme Court rules otherwise. Also jailed were his brother John S. Newberry and fifteen campaign managers led by Frederick Cody and Paul L. King. Charles Floyd of Detroit got two years with half the fine. George Ladd of Mississippi paid $1,000.
