The Yerington rifle team defeated the Reno Club in Reno with a 983 to 265 score. Gridley led with 180 of 200, while Nash won the 500 yard event. A. B. Springer was top scorer for Yerington with 174 and a silver cup was donated for the visiting high gun. Unfavorable wind and snow flurries marked the day.

Last Saturday afternoon the Woman's Club of Yerington enjoyed a cordial visit in Mason by the Mason Club Ladies. About two dozen Yerington women attended as spring towers framed attractive rooms. Mrs J J Wilson spoke on Japan while Mrs Tl Bott shared Shanghai experiences. Refreshments were served by hostesses in Japanese costume and guests praised the gathering.

Welcome Home J B Stocker and Bride Serenaded
J B Stocker and his bride returned from Sacramento to a welcoming week. The Yerington Electric Company has purchased the Walker River Telephone Company known as the Reading line. George West, the Yerington manager, planned to extend into Smith Valley but was denied by the Public Service Commission. The merger places Mason and Smith Valleys under one management and paves the way for Artesia and other planned improvements.

Dairy Stock Tested for Tuberculosis In Smith Valley
C C Tidd leads Farm Bureau president and Dr Neilson of the Federal Veterinary Department in testing over a thousand Smith Valley dairy cattle for tuberculosis. About four percent reacted. Testing ran from Feb 2 for three weeks. Farmers received three fourths of condemned animal value from state and federal government, about $90 per head. Reactors were shipped to Reno for slaughter under federal inspection.

Western Fernley farmers met at W A Pray home on Friday 27 to organize a block of pure bred bull ownership. About 10 farmers with herds of one to six cows attended agreeing each participating cow would contribute 10 dollars toward buying a bull. Seventy-One Nevada Men Killed In War
War department statistics show Seventy-one Nevada men laid down their lives during the German conflict. Three were captured and repatriated, 176 wounded, Nevada's total casualties 250. Of the dead, three officers and 29 men killed in action, one officer and 14 men died of wounds, one officer and 17 men died of disease, four died in accidents and two from undetermined causes. Wounded include two officers and 62 men slightly, four officers and 77 men severely, and 31 undetermined. The report notes a St Patrick's dance at Rink Hall tonight.

McKinnon Sells Mine Settlement Reached in Simon District
After legal consultation Hector McKinnon and the Simon Silver and Simon Extension Mining Companies reached a full agreement on disputed Simon district mining claims. Under the settlement McKinnon receives stock and cash while the two companies take over the contested claims. Paroled to handle the matter, McKinnon warned the Pardons Board of attempts to patent his older claims, two of which are among the district’s most valuable.
