Pioneer Mary E Borland Passed Away in Sparks
Mrs. Mary E. Borland a longtime valley pioneer died after a long illness at her son Paul’s home in Sparks on the 18th of the month. Born January 17 1845 in Tekousha Michigan she traveled westward with her family in 1860 later teaching school in Mason Valley before marrying John W Borland. Her children include Julia now Mrs W R McGowan Paul Andrew and George. Funeral services were attended by family members and Charles Osborne of the valley.

The State Fish Hatchery will plant brook trout and rainbow trout in the Truckee Hum boldt Carson and Walker rivers. Silver salmon have been planted in Pyramid Lake Walker Lake and Lake Tahoe. Chinook salmon planted years ago in these lakes have yielded no catches.

Bridge Stands on River but Faces Damaging Water
The wagon bridge over the West Walker river at Nordyke is in bad shape as high water threatens. Water washed around the cement abutment end and the bank is eroding. If more high water comes, the bridge will be in danger though it might stand otherwise.
