They report rapid progress on smelter plans with draftsmen busy and grading expected to begin soon. rails for the Copper Belt line and smelter spur to depart from Minnequa June 22. depots at Werington and Mapan City nearing completion.

Socialists Challenge in Verington Nev 1910

In Verington Nevada on June 14 1910 local socialists challenge Mr N W Willis to a public debate on socialism and its flag after his Methodist church remarks. The letter signed by local Veringtons Pool A members invites a timed response and anticipates a public setting. Jacob Stirles of Gold Creek was seen at the Commercial yesterday.

Graduating Exercises at Mason Valley High School

Friday night Mason Valley held graduation exercises at the high school with a good turnout. Diplomas were awarded to Edna Richard Gladys Nichol Zenas Wilson Dan McCloud Lucille Gallagher Alfna Morrow Marie Borge Georgia Richards Ruth Barty Ernest Sonne Muriel Bernard and certificates to Adele Vaillencour Arthur Leach Amy Cooper. Mason and Smith valley students number 35 eligible for high school. Yerington plans Fourth of July events with picnics balls lemonade ice cream and a full slate of races and contests at Hansons grove and Owl and Rink halls. Prizes include cash, pins, back combs, and military set. events feature boys and girls races and a ball game between local teams.

Flag Day at Methodist Sunday School Service

Flag Day observance at the Methodist Sunday school last Sunday and in the church service drew a large audience. The flag salute by the whole Sunday school was impressive and the occasion featured songs by Miss Hillis and Miss Sperry with Mrs. Davis, music by the choir, and thoughtful remarks by Dr. Beatty and Attorney Willis.

Eastern Star leaders return from Reno meeting

Mrs Thad Hoppin Mrs Reymers and Mrs Heinleben came back from Reno where the State Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star met. Mrs Hoppin was honored as Grand Marshal and praised Yerington. The high school will close next Friday and next year is expected to show higher attendance after a satisfactory year.

One of Adam's Troubles Tale at Park Church Banquet

Rev Dr Charles Townsend of Orange spoke at the Park Presbyterian Church Men's club banquet recounting a biblical joke about Adam and Eve. The tale describes Adam admiring Eve's cooking then asking where the ingredients came from and discovering the lettuce was from his own trousers in a pun that ends with a remark about women.

Bluestone Extension Mines Co Installs New Hoist

The Bluestone Extension Mines Co owns 180 acres and five claims north of the Bluestone mine. Abraham Hanson will supervise vigorous development toward a 1 500-foot shaft, with crosscuts every 200 feet to reach the vein. Reno and Denver investors back the venture. L B C Hinckley acts as president. 1,000,000 shares authorized, 400,000 treasury, 25 cents a share, non-assessable. Jos A Harris helps place stock. Hanson oversees operations in Werington district.

Council Takes Action on Water Sewer for Yerington

The City Council met last Monday and advanced plans for a water and sewer system in Yerington if bonds can be placed. A Commercial club meeting boosted support for the project and the Dillon artesian well offered at $1000 will have a pump installed Monday for testing. A slot license funds issue was debated with a request to county. About 148,520 dollars may come to the city, after sheriff deductions, with a warrant drawn for county treasury funds. Mayor Fairbanks protested Dillon West hardware bill for using a foreign billhead and lacking civic pride.

Nevada-Douglas mine work and a prize fight battle

Sixteen men are employed at the Nevada-Douglas project where drawings, classifications of ore types, and a three ton ship for the incline shaft are underway. Investors planned another visit in July. Governor Gillette orders action against a Jeffries Johnson prize fight, calling it a public nuisance and urging penalties, while the paper questions the governor’s timing and fairness.

Yerington mining set to resume operations and work plans

Yerington Gold Co and superintendent Bumgaith of Salt Lake City arrive in Yerington, register at the Commercial, and plan hoist installation and shaft work. Honest Endeavor Co. aims to resume near Ludwig property with a 15 hp hoist and shaft to 150 feet, vein widening from 6 inches to 3 feet at 60 feet with copper content about 6 percent.
