Fernley Mourns Belgiumborn Soldier Killed in France

Relatives in Fernley received a War Department message stating August Vaenae was killed in action in France around October 6. Born in Belgium, he lived in the United States twelve years and filed on a homestead near Fernley willed to his sister-in-law Mrs Charles Vaenae. He served after registering for the draft and had military training in Belgium. three brothers served there with no known deaths. Survived by brother Charles in Fernley, his death adds to Lyon County’s honor roll as he fought for liberty and freedom.

Butner Family Mourns Death Of Baby Bertha Dixie

Sorrow fills the Hainer home as Bertha Dixie Butner dies at age two after a one day illness described as acute abdominal peritonitis. Born in Topaz, she died Saturday and was buried Monday in Yerington Cemetery. Parents Mr and Mrs WOR Butner survive along with two brothers and three sisters. Dr Dixon led the funeral service.

Gin o Aiazzi Succumbs to Influenza at Woods Ranch

Gin o Aiazzi, nine years old, son of Mr and Mrs Envica Mienzi, died at home on Woods ranch Monday from influenza. Born in Carlin Nevada he was cherished by family and neighbors and attended St Josephs Catholic Church in Plains. Rev Thomas Vorgan of Carson City celebrated the mass and grave service.

Joe Lima Flu Victim From Yerington Dies

Joe Lima, a rugged carpenter and Mason Valley resident, died December 12 from influenza after a brief illness. Born May 28 189?, in Modoc City California, he was the son of Frank S Lima and his Portuguese-born parents. Survived by both parents who joined his funeral plans. the Eagles will attend in a body tomorrow at ten.
