Dead End Kids hold Walawbum against Jap attack in Burma
The Dead End Kids of Merrill's Marauders fought a two-wave assault across the Nambyu River near Walawbum Burma. They held their positions after heavy rifle BAR and mortar fire, killed many Japanese and halted the attack while awaiting relief from Chinese forces. The unit logged low ammunition but endured tactical pressure and earned praise from Chinese commanders for enabling a larger advance.
