Tang Puts Truk Raid to Test with Two Sunk Planes
The USS Tang’s two day Truk attack yielded only two enemy ship losses as dawn raids damaged OS2U Kingfishers. Lt(jg) Scott Scammell II’s Avenger ditch and rescue efforts marked a near miss. Tang’s crew then recovered the pilots in a staged, perilous return to base.
