Gable Becomes Aerial Gunner Wins His Wings Hard Way
MGM star Clark Gable graduates from the Army Air Forces Flexible Gunnery School at Tyndall Field Florida. Enlisting as a private last August he rose to second lieutenant at Miami Beach OCS and first lieutenant at Tyndall. The 42 year old actor joined a tough class of 19 to 25 year olds, mastering machine guns turret operations and in flight gunnery tests including live-fire targets. He excelled in civilian life as a marksman and faced a final test in blink code. Gable is among the few officers to graduate with the rest enlisted and aiming for combat duty.
