Mitchells Strike Maloelap Atoll in Marshalls Raid
Seventh Air Force B-25 Mitchell bombers blasted Maloelap and surrounding targets in the eastern Marshalls. The mission yielded a 4,000-ton freighter sunk, a destroyer possibly sunk, smaller craft sunk, and several ships damaged, with Zeros attempting attacks but driven off. The crew described intense ground fire, reliable 75-mm nose cannons, and a moonlit return to base.
