Japs Break Through at Momote Airstrip Night Assault
Lt. Sam A. Durrance’s H Troop holds a perimeter at Momote as Japs press from all sides. Casualties tally one GI killed and four wounded, with 66 Jap bodies found. a later night raid sees heavy fighting and grenades, mortars, and machine guns in close combat. Major medical work continues as LSTs land at Hyane Harbor signaling forced beachhead occupation by American forces.
