The Post Office Department announces contracts from July 1 1902 require star route carriers to deliver mail into user supplied boxes or cranes along routes. Residents near routes may install boxes or cranes and file written requests with the local post office. carriers deposit mail at the designated point without charge to addressees.

The body of Dave Merrill lies in the woods near Chehalis found Monday by Mrs. Mary Wagner and her son from Napavine. A bullet hole in the back and wrist and shells nearby suggest Tracy shot Merrill in ambush before finishing him at close range. Mrs. Wagner seeks a $2,750 reward.

The Yakima district 7 school board met at the high school to renew fire insurance on the old Columbia building and consider using the Second street church as a school house. They elected Mrs. Ella Stair at $100 a month, raised Supt Jolley to 1500 annually, Plumb to 90 monthly, and welcomed three new teachers Charlotte Prendergast Ella Howland and Patterson.

Brown of the Christian Co operative Telephone association visits North Yakima to push a new line, securing 40 subscribers in Zillah and surrounding areas, bringing total subscribers to about 100.

Big Hop Sale Sets County Price Record This Year
A. B. Weed contracted with Lilenthal Brothers to sell 40 000 pounds of this year’s hops at 20 cents per pound. It is the highest hop price paid in the county this year. Seven cents will be advanced for picking efforts.

A coal mine site at the head of pumping lake is incorporated by E. K. Current, C. G. Fletcher, C. M. Hauser and P. H. Stockand and to be worked this summer. P. H. Pioneer Sitton Died at McMinnville Oregon
Sitton known as Uncle Dec Sitton died at his home three miles west of McMinnville after a prolonged illness. He was a pioneer of 1843 and father of Sheriff Sitton of North Yamhill and Harry Sitton of North Yakima. Also notes the deaths of Frances V Stiverson aged seven months and Jacob Beeks, pioneer resident, who died after blood poisoning from a leg injury in the mountains. Beeks’ body was taken to Goldendale for interment.
