Former resident John McConahay dies in Dakota City

John McConahay, 66, a Wayne county native and Dakota County settler since 1868, died August 27 in Dakota City of paralysis after his third stroke. He left a daughter in Sioux City and brothers and sisters in Wayne county. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church with Hancock post G A R in attendance. interment in Floyd Cemetery.

A new industry named Wayne Bed Spring Opany will be formed with capital stock of 16000 to manufacture woven wire mattresses bed springs and cots. Otto Hertzberg of Cleveland has been installed as the manager of the Western Union office with Delog in charge Saturday night. Armstrong, assistant superintendent, came to install him and cautioned it will be hot a few days before business moves smoothly.

The jury concluded their investigations on Tuesday afternoon and returned six true bills after examining eight causes. They visited the jail and commended Sheriff Caskey’s handling, suggesting repairs. Indictments included Charles Rosenbluah for daylight burglary and Eugene Barnard Clyde J Bunt for abusing and resisting an officer.
