Two masked men rob express car near Nashville
Train No. 2 between Nashville and Franklin is robbed by two masked men who forced the express messenger to open the safe and ring the bell before leaping from the train. Balloon accident at fairgrounds ends badly in Springfield
On September 2 at the Springfield fairgrounds Gus Kiefer was fatally injured while attempting to make a balloon ascent. As the balloon rose to about 200 feet it began to descend and his parachute failed to open when he cut loose. He fell into a tree and then to the ground, was found unconscious and taken to the hospital.
