Dr. John J. Kenney and partner Lehr Kinney open a medical office at 3 West Libertg, offering catarrh and children’s mg specialty. Promised careful and prompt attention with convenient hours. Local listing notes physicians Sohn A. Gannam and associates.
A Wooster Republicans meeting organized a McKinley Sound Money and Protection Club with officers named and a finance committee chosen. About 400 signatures gathered, pledging loyalty to McKinley and a brisk campaign, with plans for early meetings and reader questions.
Wooster Bicycle Club to run seven events on Wednesday Sept 16 at Wayne County Fair. Prizes include gold watches, silver sets, and specialty items for various junior and amateur classes. Events cover one and two and a half mile distances with trophies, bicycle parts, and a championship race.
Ora Parsons of the Hay farm near Shreve endured a lightning struck barn fire last Saturday night. The barn and much of its contents burned despite Ora's efforts to save five horses, hogs, buggies, and wagons. The losses total about $450 with no insurance.
An old ad claims Doan's Ointment provides strength and relief for weak women, easing pelvic and inflammatory issues. It touts thirty years of practice and a favorite prescription said to calm nerves and ease misery without harmful side effects.
Thomas Keeney of Bloomington suffered a very serious fall while picking plums on a ladder. The ladder slipped between branches, causing him to plunge eight to ten feet and injure his spine and a rib. Dr. Holt says recovery may take several days.
Wooster beat Shreve 11 to 9 in nine innings after a dispute over two late runs. Ira Smith mishandled a ball bat but Will Yoder threw to first base, ruling the runner out as Umpire called it. Shreve claimed a blocked ball but Wooster refused to concede, leading to a gate receipt dispute and a tense postgame scene.
The tenth triennial Smithville Normal reunion opened with speeches by Prof. J B Eberly and Rev J H Glaesboro. Former pupils, literary society members, and guests from Orrville Akron Medina and beyond gathered in Normal Hall for remembrances, music, and remarks on reviving the school. Officials discussed railroad trestle work near Marshallyville and potential changes to the route to ease travel.
The State Board of Pardons granted a pardon to William Spittier who arrived at the penitentiary in May 1892 from Wayne county. He was serving a nine year sentence for assault with intent to rob. The pardon petition, filed weeks earlier, was signed by many prominent county residents.
A coal mine two miles northwest of Shreve was opened by B. K. Gardner of Orrville, owner of the town's electric plant. The shaft shows a 30 inch vein with slate and roof rock. several workers were employed and the town readies for new electric service pending the mine’s output and stability.
Wooster University opens its 27th year as entrance examinations begin Monday September 14. Treasurer McClellan receives inquiries about tuition for new students and housing demand rises as families seek local residences. Dr. S J Kirkwood returns from Battle Creek Sanitarium improved. Miss Thaeckwell from India addressed the King's Daughters on mission work in India. Prof J H Dickason praised for leadership at Wooster's preparatory department. Hoover Cottage fills quickly as more rooms are needed for the new school year. Rev Hunter Corbett and family move to North Buckeye Street to promote Presbyterian mission work. Mrs Corbett, a Canadian, has four University-bound children. Rev Sheeley begins Kansas vacation. Mrs Sheeley travels to Pittsburgh then Rittman for visits, followed by Florence joining.
