From Grant's Army Fury in Virginia October 1864

A Civil War letter from Caaron, Virginia, dated October 10 1864, discusses Union operations near Deep Bottom and Richmond. It describes the 16th and 18th Army Corps crossing the river on September 29, heavy losses, failed Confederate attempts to retake the fort, and Grant's encirclement of Richmond. The writer attacks Copperhead and McClellan supporters, defends Lincoln, and criticizes Pendleton’s pro slavery record and opposition to coercion aimed at the rebellion.
