Disposition of the patients after the fire
The majority of patients were moved by wagon to village churches as attendants struggled to load them. Some were carried by force amid distress while others remained prone or altered and near panic. By four oclock all had been relocated to the village or nearby houses. Miss Walker, about forty, connected with the asylum for six years, died. Mr Burgess, a young married man from Bedford, was missing at dark with little hope of survival. Several may have perished. others escaped during release. Fire heat abated and search will reveal full losses. The 11th Corps at Chancellorsville is referenced with context about Greeley.
