Night Oil Tank Disaster Kills Many at Erie Train Crash

In New York state near Olean a wreck on the Erie railroad caused three oil tank explosions. A blaze lit the sky for miles as crowds watched. Twenty two bodies were counted burned beyond recognition and about forty five injured. Firemen and ambulances rushed to aid the victims while police canvassed for missing persons.

Hunter and son return from Guatemala to Louisville

From Guatemala they arrived in New Orleans on March 10 and will proceed to Louisville then Washington. They report the Guatemala supreme court confirmed the acquittal of W Godfrey Hunter Jr in the Fitzgerald murder case.

National fur trade group formed by furniture firms

Represented millions of capital. In New York on March 10 a meeting of the Tilden club drew 100 furniture manufacturers and dealers from across the United States to organize a new fur membership. The association includes nearly 1,000 concerns with an aggregate capital exceeding 50.6 million dollars.

ANSWER FILED TO DISSOLVE WABASH INJUNCTION

The Wabash Railway firemen and trainmen seek to dissolve the court injunction. In St Louis on March 1 and 2 the answer denies all charges in the bill of complaint and asks for a ruling on the injunction. Affidavits from those named in the injunction support the defense. Judge Adams will set a date for arguments on the motion. The defense claims improvident grant, illegality of conspiracy charges, lack of equity, and lack of notice.

Enforced Robinson Crusoes Sailors From Stranded Ship

Captain Jorgenson and nine crewmen aboard the American bark Alex McNeil arrived on the Coptic reporting the vessel ran aground on Pratas reef near Hong Kong after officers allegedly intoxicated and the ship drifted off course. A fight followed the stranding with the carpenter said to have fired a revolver but no injuries. One cat was lost and no other men found. The crew survived three weeks on the reef, built a makeshift boat, and were rescued. Captain Jorgenson denies officers drank at all.

Died From Overexertion In Knapp Case At Cincinnati

James T Gardiner assistant city editor of The Enquirer died suddenly of heart disease in Cincinnati at 53. He was in Hamilton Ohio last week working the Alfred A Knapp multi murder case when experts speculate his collapse stemmed from overexertion. The report notes his prior work as telegraph editor for the St Louis Globe Democrat and long career in Cincinnati journalism.

Doerch drowning reported after flood warnings in Pittsburg

Reports from upriver points warned of rising water as the Allegheny threatened flood levels. Doerch drowned in Union creek beyond its banks while residents were alerted via police bureaus. Crest of Brazos flood reached Columbia Texas and communication with Houston was cut. Several flood incidents and unrelated local notices follow.

Flood at Spiers Falls Drowns Ten Men

Washington report says ten men drowned at Spiers Falls after a sudden flood. The disaster was mentioned in a telegraph dispatch from Glenn, New York, dated March 7. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has agreed to report favorably on the Colombian canal treaty.

Two Deaths Near Morrland Reported

Mrs. Robert Reed aged 71 near Morrland died likely from heart disease after feeling ill following evening work. Her husband witnessed her heavy breathing before she collapsed. Funeral services will be held tomorrow in Wooster. Reed was described as an estimable woman with many good qualities.
