Editorial jabber and society musings in Wester

The Wester Republican column rails at Teddy Roosevelt aging politicians and the era’s “Great White Way” of New York. It lampoons Harriman and Hanna marriage news, Thaw trial headlines, Bryan’s Vermont trip, Panama Canal engineering, and rising salaries for baseball stars. The piece mixes politics, society gossip, weathered quips, and cultural references with tongue in cheek viewpoints on romance, earthquakes, railroads, and public figures.

Roosevelt and Wellman aid polar hunt amid airship plans

Collier's notes Roosevelt facing Senate hurdles while Walter Wellman readies an expedition. The piece hints the North Pole may resist discovery as public opinion weighs in on Roosevelt's fate and actions.
