Canaan Wayne Ditch Case Ends With Commissioners Upheld
In Wayne and Canaan townships Geo K Rouch and others sought to overturn a county ruling on the Canaan Wayne ditch. The jury sustained the County Commissioners after a three day hearing before Judge Afo Clarran. Plaintiffs argued the cleaned ditch would drain lands but too deep digging could ruin muck lands. About 40 witnesses testified. MCC Rouch and Frank Taggart represented plaintiffs. Benjamin asone defended. A motion for new trial was filed by George Massoni. Massoni, who killed Mike, remains in danger after a fatal saloon confrontation with four Italians including a brother of the murdered man. Massoni fears re-arrest and plans to leave Wooster for safety, lacking meals to sustain him.
