L. D. Allen, 28, was shot by his wife, 20, at their Pearl street home. He died and she then killed herself. No motive is known.
Applecreek items note Rev Slutz and others visiting from Colorado Akron and Orrville with Mrs Chaffin and Mrs Fisher as hosts. Funeral for Grandpa Reinhardt in Applecreek with Dr J Reinhardt survivor and 84 years. Fourth Lautenschlager reunion held at Martin Lautenschlager home with large attendance and two recent deaths Z L Numbers and Mrs Henry Byman.
Four convicted men at the Ohio Penitentiary annex in Columbus assault Subguard Richards amid a bid to escape. Richards, unarmed, raised alarm, reinforcements restrained the attackers, including Moses Johnson Philip Nagle Lewis Harmon and Ben Wade. The rear annex door and yard walls were the plan, with no weapons found.
Hundreds of visitors and veterans attend the thirty eighth annual encampment of the Ohio Grand Army Department as women and daughters groups also meet. A contest for the deputy grand army commander seat arises between C C Dewstoe of Cleveland and Colonel B M Moulton of Tiffin. In Gallipolis, farmer Laray Allen dies after a boar attack, his brother killing the animal with a shotgun.
A smoking car of a Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad passenger train derailed at Danville Junction after a defective switch, injuring numerous passengers. Severely hurt victims include A. W. Knox, Charles A. Allen, W. B. Redden, Charles Wilson, R. B. Morris, and Charles Hessy. The injured were taken to hospitals or cared for at local hotels.
Congress notes list visits by Orra Jacobs and Nellie Pocock in Washington and Canton, a 120th O. V. I. reunion in Shreve, and Good Bros. moving their saw mill to Shreve after a 275000 foot contract. It mentions a state Christian Endeavor convention delegate, upcoming Children's Day services, and commencement at the Methodist church with speakers James Weiler and Gus Garver. Congress-Pleasant Home baseball opens with the Undertakers against Red Haw, amid limited practice.
A long game with many brilliant plays entertained a crowd despite an 11 to 329 scoreline. The Red Haw club welcomed a gentlemanly opponent, while the Congress club prepares for a home championship and a clash with West Salem Red Armad. A second Congress team formed Saturday with Ea J Garver as manager and Leon Simon as captain. Receipts for Congress club 1908 totaled $883.
The funeral for John L. Glass was held Sunday from his South Bever Street home with friends relatives and Knights of the Maccabees in attendance Rev. Raach and Rev. Littell conducted services at the house. The Maccabees grave ritual was observed with allbearers Samuel Grossman rank Dunkle Louis Y McClure Frank Glasgow Andrew Miller John Feightner. Interment followed at Wooster cemetery. A note arrived of Zack Potter death in Greencastle Ind long resident of Wooster former water works superintendent. Edward Witherow Wooster resident died Sunday of typhoid fever funeral held Tuesday and the I O O F order was represented. Further life and death details to be announced later.
Oberlin defeated Wooster on University courts in a return tennis match, each school winning one series. Singles results show Jay defeating Thomas 9-7 and 9-5, Good beating Reid 7-5 and 6-2, with Reid taking one set 9-7. Doubles Jay and Reid won over Good and Forman 6-3 and 6-2. Wooster secured one set 6-8.
Hans A P Safdles Democratic secretary of state candidate and state board of agriculture member will attend Wooster Thursday and Friday for the second annual reunion of the Ohio State Agricultural Institution. Prominent agronomists from across the state are expected. Our school closes Friday and progress is noted. Communion services were held at Lehman church. Rev Chas Whitney of Dayton preached at United Brethren church. Road supervisors seen again.
In Reedsburg on June 15 work proceeds on abutments at Mud Run under the supervision of Mr. Spade for the A. D. Horn house. Children’s day services will be held at the Lutheran church next Sunday. The Foemars on the lowlands are planting corn.

West Salem reports a serious accident after McAlpine returned home drunk and threatened his brother. A shot through a door left him wounded in the head, while the family slept. Neighbors visited. McAlpine previously suffered a fall harming his recovery. Church schedules adjust as Evangelical services move temporarily to a school hall and Presbyterian church. A postal route review and several local property trades and renovations are noted.
The school will hold a commencement program in the school hall on June 17 evening. Featured are music by Minnie and John Hough, invocations by Rev.
