A blaze at the St Luke's society sanitorium on Wabash avenue and Twenty first street in Chicago killed thirteen people and injured thirty more. Delirium tremens patients and drug addicts on the fifth floor were trapped as flames raced up the elevator shaft. Alderman Kent and attendant A W Wattles were among the injured. Firefighters, led by James Newell who spotted the blaze, battled the rapid spread from the basement to the upper floors.
Special to Tee Ree reports a June 9 fire in Saratoga New York that destroyed the Arcade Theatre. The Saratoga Newspaper notes Mrs Maby died in the blaze and bank official Mrs Hart and Chief Chadwick were injured. Dozens are missing as damage tops three hundred thousand dollars.

A S McClure reading the Declaration, and unveiling of a naval cannon by Daughters and Sons of Veterans, followed by instrumental music. The G A R committee will preside over the ceremony.
