Elis Glenn case jury unable to agree in Parkersburg

In Parkersburg West Virginia on July 27 the Elis Glenn case arguments ended and the jury retired at eight. An hour later they reported they were unable to agree and the court ordered continued deliberations until Monday for another verdict attempt. It was expected they would fail to agree.

Shooting Affray in Niles Leaves Man Hurt

In Warren Ohio on July 29 a second shooting affray in a week occurred at Niles as William Crowe shot James Williams aged 20 in the lung, a likely fatal wound. Crowe says Williams tried to break into the rear of Charles Crowe’s saloon and sprang from a window. Williams claims a different purpose. Crowe posted $500 bail for trial.

Manages Forest City Park fires into crowd in Cleveland shooting

Otto B. Sefried park manager allegedly fired into a disturbance at Forest City Park injuring Thomas Murtagh of 47 Brosdwey Bly. A bullet pierced Murtagh’s knee while he was taken to St. Alex Hospital in a dying condition. Police found Sefried in an engine house with a revolver as a crowd watched and police dispersed the group.

Trackmen Strike Threat Hits Ohio Rail Lines

Trackmen’s Union No 1 orders section men on the Cleveland Akron and Columbus line to strike today after the company rejects a new wage scale from 81.25 to 1.35. About 76 to 100 men idle. Baltimore Ohio El Four and Toledo Ohio Car have not replied yet and may strike if no accord by Wednesday evening. In Cambridge Ohio July 29 a whitecap feud at King's mines left Grant Taylor dead and Melvin Sheldon and Joe Reedon fatally wounded after a gun battle with Mack Sheldon and Lawrence Busby. Busby was arrested as miners threatened lynching amid accusations surrounding Mrs Taylor.
